Barcelona remain the only side this season with a 100 per cent record in La Liga after three games, following their 2-1 win away at Atletico Madrid.
New dad Lionel Messi started the game from the bench for the first time since January of this year but still got on the scoresheet, courtesy of his 77th-minute winner. It was the Argentine's 20th goal against Atleti, more than he has accrued against any other side.
Fernando Torres also got himself on the scoresheet, with the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker registering his eighth Primera Division goal against the Catalans. The defeat for the hosts at the Estadio Vicente Calderon also means that they have now gone 11 league games without a victory against Barca, their longest run without a win against the Catalans in top-flight history.
A Cristiano Ronaldo goalfest away at Espanyol on Saturday kept Real Madrid just two points behind rivals Barca, with Rafa Benitez's side running out 6-0 victors.
Ronaldo is the now the all-time top scorer in La Liga, with a whopping 230 goals to his name, two more than fellow Madrid legend Raul. As for Espanyol, that drubbing was their heaviest-ever home defeat in the competition, with the Catalan club now 16 games without a league win against los Blancos (drawn three, lost 13).
