SOCCER: Manchester United Paid €9m for Schweinsteiger

The World Cup winner arrived at Old Trafford in a deal worth considerably less than first thought, as revealed by his first club

Manchester United paid Bayern Munich €9 million (£6.5m) for Bastian Schweinsteiger, it has been revealed by the Germany international's first club.

TSV 1860 Rosenheim, who play in the regional fifth tier of German football, are set to receive €38,000 as part of the deal taking Schweinsteiger to Manchester, and their chief financial officer, Sandro Sacco, has indicated that the transfer fee was €9 million.

"The transfer fee for Bastian was nine million euros and we were credited for two years," Sacco said in a club statement.

It was originally thought that the Old Trafford club had paid more for the midfielder's services, and TSV 1860 Rosenheim, where Schweinsteiger spent two years in his youth, will now receive compensation from the deal.

"We will receive the payment in two instalments, and after deducting the advisor and legal costs, we will receive €19,000," Sacco said.

"We already received the first instalment in August."
